Kersh Discussion recap: I wanted to thank all of you guys who were able to come to the discussion group yesterday! With a fairly good turn out of 12-15 people, I think it went really well. I’ll be sending out an overview of the conversation soon.

Oxfam Dinner volunteers needed (Feb 26th, 6:30-9p): The Oxfam Banquet dinner, a pre-event for the IPSA Conference in March, is next Friday, Feb 26th. If you’d like to help at the event, please contact me or Lucia Goyen at lucia.goyen@gmail.com. It should be a really great event! To learn more, you can go to the facebook invite.

Hungry Film Makers, Pt. II (FEBURARY 23rd, 6:30p): The film series will be held at the Anthology Film Archives (32 2nd Ave). Tickets are $15 at the door and online. Doors open at 6:30p and films start at 7p. The films being shown include Fresh, Mad Cow Investigation, What’s On Your Plate?, The End of the Line and Fly on the Wall. Post-screening discussion moderated by Kerry Trueman (Huffington Post reporter and founder of Eating Liberally). For more information, see previous post.

IPSA Conference Breakout Session (March 26th): The IPSA Conference is Friday 03/26 and WFPA is in charge of the nutrition panel discussion taking place. I am excited to announce that we have secured Ellen Gustafson, the co-founder of the FEED Project (the bags sold at Whole Foods that serve to feed children abroad) to lead the discussion! Let me know if you’d like to help with the session in any way.

IPSA Conference volunteers needed (March 26th): If you are interested in volunteering at the conference but were unable to attend the first volunteer meeting last night, you can contact Maulin (maulin.mehta@nyu.edu) or Tara (tnoronha@nyu.edu).

Clean Water Event (March 23rd, 6-9p): The Clean Water event is starting to take shape and looks like a really great night. We’ve secured one of the head policy analyzers of food issues at Food & Water Watch, David Winder from Water Aid America, John Cronin from the Beacon Institute, film director Amy Hart. More are in the works. Let me know if you’re interested in helping!

Peanut Butter Plan (April 18th): The Peanut Butter Plan has been approved! The group of us originally invested in the grant process has already begun discussing the logistics of the day. Please set aside the morning of Sunday, April 18th, to help make this a great event. Let me know if you’re interested in getting the word out, managing, etc.

Future Plans: There is a lot to look forward to! I met with Professor Beck last week and was very excited about her enthusiasm for the group. She’s eager to work with us and get some good things going at Wagner.

A couple ideas include:

  • Establish a partnership w/ Jimmy’s No. 43 for space and donations
  • Local Top Chef competition in which all the ingredients come from within XX mile radius and individuals compete (FALL EVENT perhaps)
  • Winter Soup Exchange in which different food purveyors donate soups and bread (or people bring soups) and people sample/taste/mingle; donation bowls would be put on the table and money distributed to soup kitchens
  • Create volunteer relationship with NYU Undergrad Community Garden
  • Help with People’s Garden Campaign

Other ideas still possible include:

  • Forge in Central Park with Wild Man
  • Trip to Amsterdam Garden
  • Volunteer at Added Value Red Hook Farm
  • Film Series with Professor Beck

THANKS ALL!
